While staying in Anguilla, we chartered a flight to St. Barts for the day. (Anguilla Travel Guide can be found here!) I am going to highlight the top things to do here if you are short on time. Whether you are coming for a week, or even stopping for the day through via ferry or plane, these are the top things to do in St. Barts!
How to get to St. Barts:
Air: The St. Barts airport has a pretty dramatic and iconic runway. It's. Awesome. If you fly to St. Barts, you'll be flying by a smaller plane. Most people fly in from SXM (St. Martin) using Winair & St. Barth commuter, however there are options from SJU (Puerto Rico) and ANU (Antigua) as well. The flight from St. Martin only takes 10 minutes. We choose to charter a plane via Anguilla Air Services since we were staying in Anguilla when we visited St. Barts. The flight time from Anguilla takes 15 minutes. Since the flight is only 15 minutes, chartering a flight doesn't break the bank as much as it would to other destinations. It's ~$400 per person round trip, but you do need a minimum of 4 people to fly. I think it's worth it for the amazing views from the front of the plane. We love flying Anguilla Air Services! The Anguilla Airport is so small and low stress, as is the St. Barts airport. It makes flying so hassle free. Customs takes no time at all.
Ferry: You can also take a ferry to go from St. Martin to St. Barts. We have not done this. I hear the ferry is called the vomit comet because it is a rough ride.
Rent a Moke
This is SO fun and a great way to explore the St. Barts! They will drop off the Moke at the airport so it is waiting for you! We used Cool Rental St. Barth.
Shopping in Gustavia
The shopping in St. Barts is next level for the Caribbean. The streets here are lined with high end designer shops such as Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Valentino, Hermes, and more! Usually you do not find these kind of stores on a Caribbean island. It's fun to explore this area.
There's also restaurants and bakeries in Gustavia too! We stopped at the most wonderful bakery called Le Daily Joel Robuchon to get some sweets and coffee. It was fabulous!
Nikki Beach
Nikki Beach sits on the beautiful Sainte-Jean beach and is right next door to the iconic Eden Rock Hotel. It's a wonderful place to eat and enjoy the views. Note: This is a happening spot on Sunday, and can turn into a big party. We went on a weekday for lunch for a more relaxed vibe, and loved it! I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. This place is gorgeous! You can also rent beach loungers here to make a day of it, but we opted to continue on with our exploration of St. Barts!
Saline Beach
Don't get me wrong, the beach of Sainte-Jean was gorgeous, however Saline beach is the gem on St. Barts if you like seclusion. There are no amenities on Saline beach. There are no beach chairs for rent. You must bring your own beach gear. You have to walk about 5 minutes down a trail to access this beach. BUT... once you are here you are in for a treat. It's a large magnificent beach with the most amazing views! And you get it to yourself! As a 30A local - an empty beach is a treasured thing. Our beaches are known to get busy especially in peak season, so we love finding beaches that we have to ourselves! We are totally willing to bring our own gear and walk down a trail to achieve this! There was a boat here when we visited, so you can likely charter a boat that will take you here as well! The people in the boat were the only other people at the beach with us!
I hope you found this helpful when planning for your trip to St. Barts. It is a wonderful island and we can't wait for our next trip there!
